Four Wits University students have received international recognition for research into making high-performance computing more energy efficient.
Their work placed second at a conference in Switzerland and won Best Student Short Paper at PEARC26 in the United States.
The students studied ways to manage computing resources more efficiently, which could help reduce energy use and costs.
They are now conducting further experiments and preparing a full research paper.

Hundreds of deaf and hearing people walked in silence through Cape Town, on Saturday, to raise awareness about the experiences of deaf people.
The 12th annual DeafSA Silent Walk took participants on a five-kilometre route from Newlands to Rondebosch and back.
Hearing participants wore earplugs during the walk to experience communication without sound.
The event launched National Deaf Awareness Month and highlighted the need for greater inclusion and access for deaf people.

Two North Coast non-profit organisations have received smart devices to support their work with vulnerable children.
Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Solly Malatsi donated the devices to the North Coast Courier Orphan Fund and Summerhill House.
Summerhill House will use the devices in its three foster-care homes, while the Orphan Fund will improve communication among 20 NGO co-ordinators.
The department is also considering digital skills training for organisations working with children.
