Gauteng rolls out HPV vaccination drive in schools
Story 1
The Gauteng Department of Health has launched a school-based vaccination campaign to protect young girls against cervical cancer.
Running until 7 November, the drive targets girls aged 9 to 15 in Grade 5, as well as those in higher grades who missed their shots in previous years.
Health officials say the single-dose HPV vaccine is safe and effective, guarding against the strains responsible for most cervical cancer cases.
Consent forms are required, while learners over 12 may self-assent.
The campaign also includes booster vaccines for Grade 5 pupils and forms part of the wider Integrated School Health Programme.
