Government commits R10 billion to support ECD

R10 billion has been allocated to support early childhood development programmes in South Africa.
This was revealed by Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube at the launch of the Thrive by Five Index 2024 in Sandton.
The 2024 Thrive by Five Index found that only 42% of over 5,000 assessed children were developmentally on track.
Gwarube emphasised that building a stronger, more stable education system starts with the foundations laid in early childhood:

Gauteng Schools team up to support children with Cancer

Two Gauteng schools, Bryanston High School and Laerskool Doringkloof, are teaming up to support children with cancer through the Bake Box campaign.
The initiative, ahead of National Cupcake Day on September 27, collects baking essentials from the community to aid volunteer bakers.
These bakers, known as the Cupcake Angels, use the ingredients to make cupcakes sold at 78 malls nationwide to raise funds.
The campaign supports Cupcakes of Hope, a local NGO that helps children fighting cancer.

Global technology leader HCL Technologies is expanding its partnership with the North West University, to enhance access and create opportunities for students with disabilities.
HCL-Tech has allocated one-million-rand for student bursaries and an additional 250-thousand-rand towards assistive devices and software updates for the university’s Disability Rights Unit.
The Technology company says its vision goes beyond bursaries and includes opening doors to employment and long-term empowerment.
