Mining and manufacturing power South Africa’s economy
Story 2
South Africa’s economy grew by 0.8 percent in the second quarter, its strongest performance in a year.
It marks the third straight quarter of growth and comes after a rebound in mining and manufacturing.
The recovery was supported by more reliable electricity supply, improved logistics, steady global demand and stronger local conditions.
Household spending also played a role, while agriculture added a smaller but still positive contribution.
Economists say the latest figures show encouraging momentum even if growth remains below pre-pandemic levels.
