The Mayoral committee member for Economic Development and Spatial Planning, Sarah Mabotsa, says the city aims to secure five-billion-rand in investments at the landmark event.
She adds that they plan to grow the local economy at an average of 3.9-percent by 2029.

Ride for Hope cyclists to embark on 1,400km journey to Cape Town

A mission-focused team of sponsored cyclists will set off from Carletonville in February 2026, to complete the almost 1,400-kilometre Ride for Hope tour to Cape Town.

All funds raised by the riders will help support the Cancer Association of South Africa’s life-saving work.
The event, which is part of CANSA’s Active programme, aims not only to raise funds, but also to increase awareness of cancer and to spread hope.

Ethiopia officiated the continent's largest hydroelectric dam, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, on the Blue Nile River yesterday.

The momentous event, attended by regional dignitaries, marked the dam's official opening and the achievement of its full operational capacity, promising to more than double Ethiopia's electricity supply and serve as a crucial symbol of the nation's economic aspirations.

The construction of the more than $4 billion project began in April 2011.
The dam is expected to generate more than 6 000 megawatts of electricity, transforming Ethiopia into the continent's largest power exporter.
