Major funding includes around R7.3 billion for Côte d’Ivoire’s high-voltage transmission upgrade, R1.2 billion for rural electrification in Cameroon, and R920 million to expand renewable energy access in Somalia.
The investment aims to support Africa’s energy transition, create jobs, and strengthen regional stability, while addressing the needs of the 600 million people without electricity across the continent.
The funding forms part of the EU’s broader Global Gateway infrastructure plan and will help African nations integrate clean energy into their growing power systems
