Part of Pablo Escobar’s Estate Given to Conflict Victims in Colombia
Story 3
Colombia has handed over 120 hectares of Pablo Escobar’s former Hacienda Napoles estate to women affected by the country’s decades-long armed conflict.
The land, once part of the Medellin Cartel boss’s lavish estate, had been previously leased to local authorities and used as a theme park and zoo.
President Gustavo Petro said the move gives hope and security to rural women who had faced eviction and hardship.
The estate is also famous for its herd of hippos, originally brought by Escobar in the 1980s, which now number around 150 and are considered an invasive species.
This initiative is part of Colombia’s wider land reform program aimed at redistributing properties previously owned by drug traffickers to communities in need.
