#Ride4Rare raises funds for rare diseases through Ride Joburg
Story 1
TCyclist Mauritz van den Heever has helped raise nearly R200 000 for Rare Diseases South Africa through the organisation’s #Ride4Rare campaign at this year’s 947 Ride Joburg.
Inspired by his wife Elindi, who lives with a rare condition, Van den Heever says cycling with a charity group made the experience unforgettable.
RDSA’s Judy McBeath says the funds will go toward treatments, therapies, and support programmes for affected families.
She’s encouraged more people to take part in future charity rides to help raise awareness and hope for those living with rare diseases.

Eastern Cape Unveils Oceans Economy Plan to Boost Jobs and Growth
Story 2
The Eastern Cape has launched South Africa’s first provincial Oceans Economy Satellite Account, a blueprint showing how the province can grow its ocean-based industries.
The plan looks at opportunities in shipping, fishing, tourism, and offshore oil and gas, highlighting where money and jobs can be created.
In 2023, the Oceans Economy contributed nearly R28-billion and supported around 43,000 jobs in the province. Transport, tourism, and offshore gas are seen as the biggest growth areas.
Officials say the blueprint will help attract investment, create jobs, and ensure local communities benefit from the province’s coastal resources.
The plan also aims to support sustainable development, balancing economic growth with protection of the ocean environment.
