UP and Rand Water Launch Hub to Drive Water Innovation
Story 1
The University of Pretoria and Rand Water have launched the Rand Water Research, Development and Innovation Hub at UP to advance sustainable water and sanitation solutions.
The hub will bring together experts to conduct research, offer training, and develop practical projects that address water security, climate adaptation, and integrated resource management across South Africa and Africa.
In its first year, the hub will initiate 10 projects, including programmes focused on sanitation, water-energy-food integration, and resilient water systems.
UP Vice-Chancellor Professor Francis Petersen said the collaboration strengthens the university’s role as a research-intensive institution tackling societal challenges, while Rand Water’s CEO Sipho Mosai described it as a strategic step in enhancing knowledge and innovation in the sector.
The hub aims to generate actionable solutions, build intellectual capital, and promote sustainable water management across the continent.
