Nurses Honoured on International Nurses Day
Story 2
Nurses across South Africa are being honoured as the world marks International Nurses Day, celebrated annually on the 12th of May. The day recognises the compassion, skill and dedication nurses bring to patients during some of life’s most vulnerable moments.
Healthcare groups say nurses remain the backbone of the system, providing care, emotional support and reassurance in hospitals and clinics while often working long and demanding shifts.
This year’s global theme focuses on empowering nurses as essential to saving lives and strengthening healthcare systems.

Kelvin sports centre revived after 17 years of neglect
Story 3
The Game Point Sports Centre in Kelvin, Johannesburg, has been revived after standing vandalised and unused for 17 years.
The upgraded facility now offers soccer, netball, volleyball and padel courts, and has returned as a busy hub for community sport and recreation.
The restoration was made possible through a partnership between the City of Johannesburg’s Sports and Recreation Department, community stakeholders, and private sponsorship support. Ward 109 councillor Lori Coogan says the centre is already improving residents’ quality of life, with regular bookings and teams using the space throughout the week.
Plans are also underway to renovate the clubhouse as part of ongoing upgrades at the site.
