After growing frustrated with damaged tyres, cracked rims and dangerous roads Jaraad Hassim created a unique product called PatchPal. The idea is simple: drop the material into a pothole, drive over it, and the repair is done. According to the company, its cold-mix system compacts under traffic and can fix potholes in under 10 minutes.What started as a garage concept is now growing across Southern Africa, with interest from municipalities, contractors and communities looking for faster road repair solutions. The World Health Organization has approved the first malaria treatment specifically designed for infants, offering a safer option for babies weighing under five kilograms. The drug is intended to reduce risks associated with using medicines made for older children. Health officials say the approval will help improve access to treatment in malaria-affected regions, particularly across Africa where the disease burden is highest. Children under five remain the most affected group, accounting for the majority of malaria-related deaths worldwide.
