South Africa’s young public speakers competed with the very best in the world at the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships in Bristol, England. The prestigious global competition, which has been running since 1988, brought together some of the world’s top high school speakers to compete across five categories: debate, impromptu speaking, interpretive reading, persuasive speaking and after-dinner speaking. Speaking after the event, South African team manager and accompanying teacher Shaun McCabe praised the standard shown by the country’s 15-member contingent. This featured learners from several schools across South Africa.

Centennial Schools learner Mauro Da Luz is making waves in South African motorsport, progressing from karting success to competing in one of the country’s leading racing series.
At just 17 years old, Da Luz has already built an impressive racing career, moving from competitive karting into the prestigious Astron Energy VW Polo Cup championship. He began his motorsport journey in 2022, entering professional karting in the Junior Max category and quickly establishing himself as a strong competitor.
