The Sundowner Residents Association (SRA) has officially joined the Community Hub app to enhance safety, communication, and community involvement in the Randburg suburb.
As part of a broader rollout across the area, the app offers residents a convenient way to stay connected, access emergency services, support local businesses, and get involved in community projects — all while helping fund the SRA through a revenue-sharing model.
SRA chairperson Jamie Hendry noted that although some residents were initially cautious, those who’ve signed up are finding real value in the platform.
Community Hub continues to grow, expanding into more Randburg neighborhoods and beyond to strengthen local ties.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has hailed a new trade agreement with the United States as a “fantastic, historic day.”

The deal, signed with President Donald Trump, cuts tariffs on UK steel, aluminium, and cars — slashing car export duties from 27.5% to 10%, saving Jaguar Land Rover hundreds of millions of pounds.

It also opens new beef export quotas for UK farmers and ensures British food standards remain intact. Starmer says the deal will protect and create jobs, with more negotiations still to come for full tariff relief.

Researchers at the University of Pretoria are finding smarter, greener ways to grow white button mushrooms — including in repurposed shipping containers.
The project, led by Professor Lise Korsten, is helping local producers reduce their reliance on peat — a natural soil-like material from wetlands that’s widely used in mushroom farming but harms the environment when mined.
By testing eco-friendly alternatives, the team hopes to support small-scale mushroom farming while protecting nature.
Fresh mushrooms from their mini-farms are also donated to struggling students through UP’s SNAPP programme, turning research into nourishment and hope.
