Knight Preparatory Learners Give Back to Non-Profit
Story 1
Learners from Knight Preparatory School collected dog and cat food to donate to Place a Pup, a non-profit in Roodepoort that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes abandoned and neglected animals.
The initiative was led by the Grade 7 leadership group, Knights of Kindness. The learners gathered donations from their families and visited the NPO to see the facility, play with the puppies, and hand over the supplies.
Teacher Kirsten Groves says the project helps young people develop a habit of giving back while supporting organisations that rely on public generosity to continue their work.

Brain Tumour Removed Without a Single Incision on South Coast
Story 2
Doctors at Shelly Beach Hospital have removed a brain tumour without a single external cut, a first for the South Coast.
The procedure, done by Dr Nxakama, Dr Sigonya, and Dr Malleck, uses an endoscope through the nasal passages to remove the tumour safely.
Patients recover faster, with less trauma and fewer complications than traditional surgery.
While the technique has been used elsewhere in South Africa, this milestone brings advanced neurosurgery closer to local communities, reducing the need to travel for specialist care.

Anti-Loneliness Pub Movement Gains Global Popularity
Teaser / Tailpiece story
A campaign to fight loneliness is spreading around the world. The Empty Chairs meet-up was started in the UK by Dean Perryman after his best friend took his own life. He wanted a way to remember his friend and offer others a space for company.
The idea is to leave a few chairs empty in a pub and invite anyone who feels lonely to join. The movement has now inspired similar events in Belgium, Canada, Norway and the United States.
Organisers say people of all ages attend, including some visiting a social space for the first time in months. One woman even created her own events called Andrew’s Empty Chairs after losing her husband.
