UP tops SA's 2024 DHET Creative Research Outputs ranking

The results are based on the assessment of 2024 submissions, which included creative work from the university’s staff and students in music, fine arts, design, and exhibitions.

Adopt-A-Community has launched a Zero Waste to Landfill initiative in Dube, Soweto.
The project brings together local leaders, businesses, waste collectors, and community groups to promote recycling, reduce landfill waste, and keep neighbourhoods clean.
Founder Duduzile Ntuli also introduced the BinPack app, which helps residents manage waste and supports a circular economy.
The initiative creates opportunities for local employment and business growth, and community members took part in a Q&A to learn how to get involved.

The World Skills SA National Competition, Conference and Career Festival 2026 is underway from 8–12 March in Durban.
Over 213 students from across South Africa are competing in 27 skill areas to showcase technical expertise, with winners advancing to an international competition in Shanghai in September 2026.
The event is hosted by the Department of Higher Education and Training.
