SA animator Lesego Vorster receives France's Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters

South African animator and visual artist Lesego Vorster received the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters from the French Republic at a ceremony at the Residence de France in Pretoria.
Vorster co-founded The Hidden Hand Studios and founded Toe Dash, developing African-focused animated films and storytelling.
He also established the animation programme at Tshimologong Digital Precinct in Johannesburg, training and mentoring a new generation of African animators.
The Order of Arts and Letters recognises individuals whose work contributes to the arts, literature, and international cultural influence.
The Order of Arts and Letters has previously been awarded to a number of influential South African cultural figures, including Mary Sibande, Phyllis Klotz, Zanele Muholi and Gregory Maqoma.

Crossroads School learners make sandwiches for charity

Learners at Crossroads School in Randburg took part in charity work by making peanut butter and jam sandwiches and adding handwritten notes with encouraging messages.
The sandwiches were given to families to give to people in need, helping homeless and vulnerable members of the community.
Through the activity, the learners actively contributed to supporting others and learning the value of community care.

The World Skills SA National Competition, Conference and Career Festival 2026 is underway from 8–12 March in Durban.
Over 213 students from across South Africa are competing in 27 skill areas to showcase technical expertise, with winners advancing to an international competition in Shanghai in September 2026.
The event is hosted by the Department of Higher Education and Training.
