Alexandra libraries boost children’s reading access
Story 1
While South Africa faces a reading crisis, five small libraries in Alexandra Township are helping children discover a love for books and learning.
The libraries, housed in converted shipping containers and supported by Breadline Africa, serve thousands of learners each week.
Some children who used the libraries have gone on to win scholarships, spelling competitions and overseas study opportunities.
Teachers and learners say these simple spaces are opening doors and proving that access to books can change lives.
