Mitchells Plain learner selected for prestigious NASA educational programme

A Grade 11 learner at Mondale High School in Mitchells Plain has been selected by the South African Space Design Competition to participate in an educational trip to NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Students from around the world will compete to design futuristic space settlements in teams, simulating the work of real aerospace companies responding to a contract from a fictional space agency.”

Zayaan Aburahman says she’s thrilled by the opportunity to compete internationally and to tour National Aeronautics and Space Administration facilities in the United States.

The competition will include 270 students from over 20 countries.

The Sides also played the opening match of the 2010 FIFA World cup in South Africa, which was the first showpiece of its kind to be hosted on African soil.
More than 80 000 spectators around the world are expected o Thursday and more than 1 billion people from around the world will watch the clash on television screens.
