Young scientist to represent South Africa in Sweden

17-year old Sinenhlanhla Nkosi from Sintintile Secondary School in Mpumalanga has been crowned the national winner of the 2026 South African Youth Water Prize, during the national finals held in Kempton Park, earning the opportunity to represent South Africa at the Stockholm Junior Water Prize in Sweden later this year.
The annual competition which is hosted by the Department of Water and Sanitation in partnership with the Water Research Commission, brought together the country's top young scientists and innovators from all nine provinces to showcase research projects and innovative solutions aimed at addressing South Africa's water and environmental challenges.
The competition served as more than just a contest, providing learners with a unique opportunity to engage with experts, researchers, engineers and professionals within the water sector, while gaining insight into career opportunities in science, technology, innovation and environmental management.

The service has been designed to provide a convenient and reliable transport option for supporters travelling along the marathon route, as significant road closures are expected throughout the City of eThekwini on race day.

South Africa records historic surge in tourist arrivals

Cabinet has welcomed a historic increase in international tourist arrivals, as South Africa recorded its strongest tourism performance in the first four months of the year.
Stats SA reported that nearly one million tourists visited the country in the month of April alone, representing a 19.5% increase compared to the same period last year.
Government says improved international connectivity, including additional flights from Europe and South America, as well as greater visitor confidence in safety and security, are helping drive the tourism sector's continued success.
