Johannesburg launches winter fire safety campaign

The City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services has launched its winter fire safety campaign.
At the Springbok informal settlement in Moffatview, south of Johannesburg, residents were trained in fire prevention and received safety kits including solar lanterns, smoke detectors, first aid kits and blankets.
The campaign focuses on reducing winter fires linked to heaters, candles and paraffin stoves.
EMS says the programme will be rolled out across the city as fire risks increase during the cold season.

Zola centre turns dump into garden

The Zola Nutritional Centre in Soweto has transformed a former illegal dumping site into a community garden that now grows vegetables, herbs and fruit for local use.
The produce is used in meals and food parcels, helping support food access for nearby families.

FIFA, New York City and state officials will host a World Cup Final watch party on 19 July at the Great Lawn in Central Park, Manhattan.
