The Social Media Summit for Government, in partnership with the University of Johannesburg, brought public sector communicators and leaders together to explore digital engagement.
Held at UJ’s JBS Park on 30 June and 1 July, the event focused on “Power Shift: Understanding Technology, Connecting Citizens and Redefining Digital Engagement.”
Speakers like Prof Tankiso Moloi and Tshwane Mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya highlighted the importance of ethical communication, transparency, and meeting citizens where they are.
Panels and talks covered key topics including AI in government, crisis communication, and combating misinformation.
The summit reinforced that citizen participation and trust are vital to effective governance in the digital age.

The event honoured the memory of Rakasha Hoosen’s late husband, turning loss into a celebration of community and compassion.
Thanks to Rotary volunteers, generous donors, and the Hoosen family, the day transformed silence and stigma into hope and connection.
