KnitWits Celebrate 12 Years of Giving
Story 1
The KnitWits have marked 12 years of turning creativity into care. What began as a small luncheon has grown into a nationwide movement, led by Carolyn Steyn and Annie Robinson Grealy through 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day.
Members have stitched blankets for local and international communities, creating acts of kindness and lasting connections. Steyn says donations and volunteer support have been key to the group’s growth.
The celebration took place at the Farmhouse at Steyn City, with this year’s event also recognising United Nations World Creativity and Innovation Day.
Looking ahead, the KnitWits plan to mentor new crafters, reach underserved areas, and continue using creativity to build community.

India Doubles Tiger Population Through Strong Conservation Efforts
Teaser / Tailpiece story
Conservation efforts in India have successfully doubled the country’s native tiger population since 2006, according to a recent study published in the journal Science. By 2018, India’s tiger population rose to over 3,600, accounting for 75% of the world’s tigers, alongside a 30% increase in protected habitat.
The study found that tigers thrive in areas with strong conservation measures, government compensation for livestock losses, and sustainable tourism. Human-tiger conflict remains low, with fatalities far fewer than from other wildlife or accidents, even within tiger reserves.
