Volunteers Exceed Goal and Pack 33000 Meals for Early Childhood Centres
Story 1
About 100 volunteers from various organisations in Benoni and Boksburg have exceeded Rise Against Hunger’s target, packing 33,000 meals in just two hours.
The meals, containing rice, soy, vegetables, and vitamins, will support Early Childhood Development centres across Gauteng through the organisation’s ECD Connect Programme.
Volunteers worked at Belvedere School, filling, sealing, and boxing the meals for distribution to centres in Alexandra, Benoni, Diepsloot, and beyond.
The initiative helps unregistered centres provide food for children while saving resources for educational materials and teacher training.

Over 300 Western Cape Traffic Officers Trained to Combat Human Trafficking
Story 2
More than 300 traffic officers in the Western Cape have completed special training to help spot and respond to human trafficking.
The programme, run by the Western Cape Departments of Social Development and Mobility with A21 South Africa, teaches officers how to recognise suspicious activity, understand relevant laws, and support potential victims in a sensitive way.
Officials say the training not only improves road safety but also helps protect vulnerable people, especially children.
Early results include officers stepping in to assist undocumented minors in high-risk situations. Plans are in place to roll the programme out across the province.

Haiti’s Compas Music Set to Join UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List
Story 3
The sound of compas, Haiti’s most celebrated music and dance style, is on the brink of receiving global recognition as it is expected to be added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list this week.
The genre, also known as konpa, is a daily part of life across Haiti and among its diaspora and is regarded as a strong symbol of national identity.
Cultural experts say compas connects communities across the country and continues to thrive even during difficult periods.
The style was created in nineteen fifty five by saxophonist Nemours Jean Baptiste and later gained international reach through groups such as Tabou Combo.
Officials say the anticipated UNESCO listing offers a welcome moment of pride for Haiti at a time when the country often faces global attention for political and security concerns.
