The Horison Block Watch in Roodepoort has completed its annual Christmas run. The event saw Santa travelling through the community for three nights handing out toys and sweets.
Organisers say this is the 10th year of the initiative which is supported by local businesses and volunteers.
Residents lined the streets each night as police, security and block watch vehicles escorted Santa and his elves on a brightly lit float.
The tour also included a stop at St Lawrence Children’s Haven with the Grinch joining this year’s visit.

Entrepreneur Keith Boyd has completed an 11,000-kilometre run from Cape Town to Cairo in 301 days, setting a new Guinness World Record for the fastest run along this route.
Boyd’s journey, spanning nine African countries, aimed to raise awareness for RainbowLeaders.org.za, a foundation focused on youth empowerment and civic engagement.
Along the way, he visited schools, encouraged young people to participate in democracy, and documented challenges including health struggles and safety incidents.

The Brazil Restoration and Bioeconomy Finance Coalition is mobilizing around R200 billion by 2030 to support Indigenous and traditional communities across the Amazon, Cerrado, Caatinga, and Atlantic Forest.
The funds will help restore degraded land and grow sustainable businesses like açaí and Brazil nut harvesting, agroforestry, ecotourism, and artisanal crafts.
These initiatives provide income while protecting forests and strengthening climate resilience.
By offering low-bureaucracy, flexible financing, the coalition aims to overcome barriers posed by traditional financial systems, empowering communities as frontline conservationists and boosting Brazil’s bioeconomy.
