Residents of Orange Farm celebrated the transformation of the Lilly Park Street Park into a community space that combines recreation, improved safety and food security.

The park was officially unveiled on the 23rd of July through a partnership between the Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, the South African Local Government Association and the City of Johannesburg's Sport and Recreation Directorate, with support from Pikitup, City Power, Johannesburg Water, Social Development and other Stakeholders.

Upgrades include the rehabilitation of a community food garden, a refurbished soccer field and outdoor fitness equipment, tree planting, park benches, litter bins and high-mast lighting to improve safety. Ward Councillor Simon Molefe has described the transformation as a precious Madiba moment, demonstrating how communities can reclaim neglected spaces through collaboration and determination.
