Orange Farm park upgrade promotes safety and recreation

Residents of Orange Farm celebrated the transformation of the Lilly Park Street Park into a vibrant community space that promotes recreation, safety and food security.
The park was officially unveiled on the 23rd of July through a partnership between Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, the South African Local Government Association and the City of Johannesburg's Sport and Recreation Directorate, with support from Pikitup, City Power, Johannesburg Water, Social Development and other Stakeholders.
The project was inspired by the community's determination to reclaim the site, transforming it into a place of hope and healing.
Upgrades include the rehabilitation of a community food garden, a refurbished soccer field and outdoor fitness equipment, tree planting, park benches, litter bins and higher-mast lighting to improve safety. Ward Councillor Simon Molefe has described the transformation as a precious Madiba Moment, demonstrating how communities can reclaim neglected spaces through collaboration and determination.

Lucky Dube Secondary School of Performing Arts launched in Ermelo

The Mpumalanga Department of Education has officially opened the state-of-the-art Lucky Dube Secondary School of Performing Arts in Ermelo.
The institution is the province's first no-fee public secondary school dedicated to performing arts in the province.
The school is named in honour of the late South African reggae legend who was born in Ermelo.
The institution will offer training in music drama and dance, alongside technical fields such as sound engineering, stage lighting and event production..
The Mpumalanga Education MEC Lindi Masina said the school marks a significant milestone in expanding access to specialised arts education while investing in the future of young people
