JMPD Officers March For Women’s Month

Johannesburg Metro Police officers marched two kilometres from Witkoppen Park to the Indaba Hotel last Thursday as part of a Women’s Month awareness walk.
The JMPD says the walk aimed to recognise women in law enforcement and challenge stereotypes about their roles and qualifications.
Officers marched along Winnie Mandela Drive, named after the late struggle icon who fought for women’s rights and freedom.
The walk also formed part of the JMPD’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

Ladysmith Women Sew For Children

A Ladysmith women’s sewing group has spent 14 years making theatre gowns, caps and care bags for children undergoing cleft surgery through Operation Smile South Africa.
The Helping Hands volunteers sew the items and donate them to help children feel more comfortable before and after surgery.
The group began working with Operation Smile after a visit 14 years ago and has continued ever since.
Their handmade items now form part of the care provided to children receiving free cleft lip and palate surgery.

Volkswagen Funds New Maths Science School

As part of its 75th anniversary celebrations, Volkswagen is funding a new mathematics and science school in Kariega, in the Eastern Cape.
The school, built in partnership with LEAP Science and Mathematics Schools, is the first of its kind in the province.
