9th annual #SilentWalk&Run taking place on 20 September

Organisers of the #SilentWalk&Run have announced the opening of entries for the 9th annual event, taking place on Saturday, 20 September, at Marks Park Sports Club in Emmarentia, Johannesburg.
The event is hosted as part of Deaf Awareness Month that is commemorated annually in September, and is also part of commemorating the International Week of Deaf People running from 22 -to-28-September themed, "No Human Rights Without Sign Language Rights".
The Neema Foundation for the Deaf says last year the silent-walk and run attracted more than 2 500 participants and it is expected to continue to grow.
The Foundation's Cebisile Ndebele says this event aims to promote the inclusion of the deaf community in mainstream society.

A new movement aimed at empowering underprivileged women and girls across Africa was launched in Sandton last month.
Elevate Her Africa, founded by social entrepreneur Marie-Joelle Kasongo, aims to uplift and empower through practical support and long-term initiatives.
The movement combines efforts such as providing menstrual health products with mindset development, entrepreneurial training, and skills development.
Kasongo says the launch event, which included a sanitary pad donation drive, was made possible through community support and sponsorship.

The VUSA Rugby & Learning Academy recently hosted its 4th annual Market Day at the Langa Sports grounds in Cape Town.
40 Grade-7 learners showcased their entrepreneurial skills, displaying a range of small-scale businesses, from food stalls to artwork and carnival games.
The Market Day allowed the children to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world setting.
Programme Manager Lebo Mokoena reflected on the significance of the initiative in developing the learners' business skills and entrepreneurial spirit:

The Confederation of African Football has announced that it is about to conclude an eight-year, groundbreaking deal to turn around the fortunes of African Football.
It says it has shortlisted two-agencies for its R17.6bn broadcast rights.
