South Africa remains optimistic about AGOA renewal
          Story 1
South African Trade, Industry, and Competition Minister Parks Tau has expressed confidence that the African Growth and Opportunity Act will be renewed, despite the trade initiative officially expiring on September 30.
AGOA's renewal is crucial for South Africa, as it accounts for over R69 billion in exports to the US, representing 28% of all SA-US trade.
Tau says there is broad support for AGOA's renewal in the US Congress, with both Democrats and Republicans backing the initiative.
He however, adds that there are uncertainties regarding the period of renewal, timing, and legislative vehicle for renewal.
