South Africa remains optimistic about AGOA renewal

South African Trade, Industry, and Competition Minister Parks Tau has expressed confidence that the African Growth and Opportunity Act will be renewed, despite the trade initiative officially expiring on September 30.
AGOA's renewal is crucial for South Africa, as it accounts for over R69 billion in exports to the US, representing 28% of all SA-US trade.
Tau says there is broad support for AGOA's renewal in the US Congress, with both Democrats and Republicans backing the initiative.
He however, adds that there are uncertainties regarding the period of renewal, timing, and legislative vehicle for renewal.

Rwanda has signed sponsorship deals with US teams, LA Clippers and Los Angeles Rams to promote tourism in the country.
Under the agreement, Visit Rwanda, the tourism brand of the Rwanda Development Board, will become the exclusive jersey patch sponsor of the LA Clippers and an official international tourism sponsor of the Los Angeles Rams, SoFi Stadium, and Hollywood Park.
Rwanda generated $650 million from tourism in 2024, and plans to earn $1 billion in 2029.
