The Johannesburg Development Agency is advancing construction on the R28 million Hikhensile Clinic in Ivory Park, with phase 1 already 80% complete.
The 2 173 m² facility will bring quality healthcare within 5 km for thousands of residents once fully operational.
Phase 1 included demolition of the old clinic, temporary service relocation, and major structural work including emergency and consultation rooms.
Phase 2 will finish the mother-and-child and chronic care wings, install medical equipment, and make the clinic fully functional within two to three financial years.
The project also supports local economic growth, creating jobs and skills opportunities for small and medium enterprises.

South Africa’s West Coast Rock Lobster fishing industry has received a major boost with a 58.4 percent increase in the Total Allowable Catch for the 2025/2026 season.
The increase reflects signs of recovery in lobster stocks, showing that conservation efforts are working.
The new quota rises from 505 to 800 tonnes, benefiting commercial and small-scale fishers and supporting jobs and livelihoods in coastal communities.
To protect the stock, the season will run for four months, from 15 November to 15 March, alongside measures to curb poaching.
Government says the move balances ecological sustainability with economic opportunities, helping both the environment and people who depend on the fishery.
