Futura School Hosts Autism Awareness Walk and Fun Day
Futura Special School in Ridgeway will hold its third annual Autism Awareness big walk and fun day on 18 April, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The event, starting at 20 Leipoldt Street, will feature a 3-kilometre walk, children’s games, and food stalls, all aimed at raising funds for the school’s programmes. It is designed to bring the community together, highlight the challenges faced by children with autism, and promote understanding and inclusion.

UJ and Good Work Foundation Launch Rural Education Partnership
The University of Johannesburg and the Good Work Foundation have launched a three-year research partnership aimed at improving education, well-being and employment opportunities for students in South Africa’s rural communities. Researchers have used gene-editing technology to enhance key genes responsible for aroma in tomatoes. Researchers say the technology produces what they describe as an extraordinary aromatic tomato plant. The study, published by KeAi Publishing, found that the enhanced popcorn-like scent comes from higher levels of 2 a seetil-1-pure-oh-leen. This is a natural compound also linked to the fragrance of aromatic rice and buttered popcorn. The breakthrough aims to restore flavor and scent often lost during harvesting and transport.
