Non profit organisation Phakamisa Elderly hosted an appreciation event in Fleurhof to honour senior citizens aged 80 to 90 and older.
The event brought together elderly residents from Fleurhof, Jerusalema, Florida and parts of Soweto under the theme ‘Honouring our living legends’.
Activities included choir performances, health screenings, talks on financial literacy and shared meals, all aimed at celebrating and supporting active ageing.

Spaza shop support fund boosts township businesses nationwide

More than 2,300 spaza shop owners across all nine provinces have been approved for funding from government’s R179 million allocation under the R500 million Spaza Shop Support Fund.
The initiative aims to strengthen informal retailers by improving access to finance and supporting formal registration with municipalities.
It also provides operational guidance to improve efficiency and sustainability in small businesses.
Acting Small Enterprise Development and Finance Agency CEO Nkosikhona Mbatha says more spaza shop owners are encouraged to apply so that the remainder of the fund can be distributed to eligible businesses

Orange wave hits Auckland Park as UJ Fun Run supports student futures

The University of Johannesburg’s annual Steps 2 UJ Future Forward Fun Run saw more than 1 000 participants take to the streets of Auckland Park on May 30, raising funds to assist students with tuition fees.
Runners and walkers took on 2.5km, 5km and 10km routes, with students, staff, alumni and community members all joining in the event.
Dressed in bright orange shirts, participants turned the area around the Bunting Road campus into a display of community spirit and support for higher education
