Dear Sis Dolly heads to the big screen
Story 3
The legacy of Drum magazine’s iconic advice column Sis Dolly is coming to cinemas with the release of Dear Sis Dolly.
Inspired by the long-running column named after legendary musician and actress Dolly Rathebe, the film follows young contestants competing to become the next Sis Dolly while exploring themes including family, relationships, mental health and ambition.
The production also celebrates the role the column played in giving South Africans a space to seek advice and preserve cultural history.
A special screening of the film was recently held in Hyde Park, Johannesburg, where cast members and industry guests gathered to reflect on its cultural significance. Former columnist Liz Khumalo described the experience as an emotional tribute to a column that meant a great deal to her.
