UJ Gold Day raises funds to boost access to higher education

The University of Johannesburg hosted its annual golf day to raise funds for financially disadvantaged students.

The event brought together staff, alumni, corporate partners and community leaders at the Randpark Golf Club to support access to higher education.

The annual fundraiser brings together the university community and corporate partners to help bridge the financial gap that is faced by students that are pursuing their higher education.

The funds raised through sponsorships and four-ball entries will help deserving financially disadvantaged students to continue their studies at the university.

South Africa launches Rooibos in Space Project

The South African Rooibos Council has launched the Rooibos in Space project, that will send rooibos seeds to the International Space Station later this year, to study how space affects plant growth.

The initiative, which is supported by the South African National Space Agency and MaxIQ Space
project, will involve learners from seven schools in the Cederberg, who will compare the growth of seeds that have travelled to space with those cultivated on Earth.

The council’s Dawie de Villiers says the project aims to advance research into sustainable agriculture.
