How did you get into radio?

I have always L-O-V-E-D radio! In university I did a lot of promotional work and I quickly worked my way up the ladder because of my great people skills and my "radio voice." So in 2012 I joined 'Rhythm100 radio,' an online station way ahead of its time. After it unfortunately shut down, I applied for the Yfm academy in 2015 where I truly explored my talent for the medium. During my 4 years there, I co-hosted an array of shows, namely 'The Weekend breakfast with Xtremme,' 'YNight lights with Smash Afrika,' and 'Smash and Grab' also with Smash Afrika. At Yfm I learned other skills such as producing, editing, copy writing and I discovered my voice over skills are "some of the best in the game" according to Mike Penny. After leaving Yfm in 2019, I chose to explore other parts of the entertainment industry as I consider myself an eternal student. I spent 3 years as a content producer for television, mainly in the youth music shows space. In 2021 I joined CliffCentral to explore the world of podcasting as my love for story telling and broadcasting would never leave me. I co-hosted the Gareth Cliff show once a week for 2 years, and I started my own podcast, #LifewithLebang, which won podcast of the year in 2023 at the APVA awards. At CliffCentral I learned other skills more on the sales side of business, business development, graphic design, digital, social media and brand communications. I will always love radio, as long as there is an audience and a microphone, I know there is someone out there who needs to feel less lonely.

What do you love about working with 919?

There are some great opportunities that can be tapped into. 919 feels like the right place to explore such opportunities!

If we say Joburg, what comes to mind?

Home

Where are you based, and what’s the route you travel to get to the station?

Born and raised in 011, I live in my house in Bramley North, it's a 6 minute drive to the station. I leave my house, get onto Corlett drive, turn right at Melrose Arch onto Atholl Oaklands, pass BluBird on the left. Turn right into Athol road, left onto Boundary road, cross Rivonia road and onto Ferguson.

What do you get up to when you’re not doing your show / working at 919?

Apart from raising my 6 kids, I am building my agency BBB Media. We specialise in digital and brand communications. I am also putting more effort into building the 'Lebang Kgosana' brand which is all about positive and present parenting.

Who are your favourite artists and genres?

Well, they don't call me the "HipHopMom" for no reason. My all time go to genre is Old school HipHop and RnB as I was raised on it. After that is house music, deep house and anything from the late 80's and 90's is my vibe. I am however a lover of good music regardless of the genre, so if its heavy metal but it makes me feel good - then I can dig it! I have way too many favorite artists but up there is Lauryn Hill, Anderson Paak, Kendrick Lamar, AKA, Kanye West, J Cole, Brenda Fassie.
