Johannesburg hosts the 2025 G20 Summit

The South African government says it's all systems go for what is arguably the most important event on the country’s calendar in 2025, as the G20 heads of state prepare to meet at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg from today.

42 countries have confirmed their participation, including 20 member states, 16 guest countries and six countries representing regional economic communities in Africa, the Caribbean and East Asia.

South Africa assumed the year-long G20 presidency at the end of 2024, making it the first African state to host the bloc.

Northern Cape Education and NECT partner to transform teaching and learning outomes across the province

The Northern Cape department of education has partnered with the National Education Collaboration Trust, to implement a multi-year education improvement plan.

Experts will work with the department for the next 10 years, to improve education outcomes that include supplying much-needed skills.

The Trust was founded in 2013 as a means to mobilise national resources to support government in achieving sustainable and substantial improvement in education.

Government teams up with Higher Education Sector to drive the R2.2-Trillion Integrated Energy Resource Plan

South Africa’s Minister of Electricity and Energy, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, has announced a partnership with universities and colleges to develop the skills needed for the country’s ambitious R2.2-trillion Integrated Resource Plan.

The plan aims to add 105 gigawatts of new energy capacity by 2039, ensuring universal electricity access while driving economic growth.

The initiative will also create jobs, reduce reliance on coal and support a shift towards cleaner energy sources, marking a significant step in transforming South Africa’s energy landscape.

Microsoft South Africa in partnership with South African edtech company Seseko, has successfully delivered a groundbreaking robotics and coding programme empowering over 5,000 learners across six provinces.

The initiative aims to equip remote and underserved communities with the tools, skills and confidence needed to participate in the digital economy, through hands-on bootcamps, accredited teacher training and the supply of robotics kits.

105 teachers from 68 Gauteng schools have completed SACE-accredited training, empowering them to integrate robotics and coding into everyday teaching.

The rollout is redefining what is possible for young people in communities where access to technology has been limited.
