The Johannesburg Emergency Services says it is on high alert as the weather in Gauteng gets even colder, with temperatures expected to drop significantly over the weekend.

The South African Weather Service has issued an alert on extremely cold temperatures in most parts of Johannesburg, from the beginning of the weekend.

Residents are urged to exercise caution while using heating devices.

The Higher Education Minister Dr Nobuhle Nkabane, will officiate the induction of the 6th Board of the National Skills Authority, at the Gallagher House in Midrand on the 6th of May.

The programme serves to outline the legislative mandate, and responsibilities of the NSA, while providing strategic orientation to the newly appointed board members.

The National Skills Authority serves as an advisory body to the Minister, on matters of national skills development policy, strategy and implementation.

As the media fraternity celebrates World Press Freedom Day, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has called for the protection of media practitioners.

The South African National Editors’ Forum has joined its global peers in examining the impact of artificial intelligence on journalism and press freedom, in recognition of the day.

World Press Freedom Day, is more pronounced in South Africa, as it comes five days after the national Freedom Day that celebrates the country's ushering into a democratic dispensation.

This year marks 32 years since the UN General Assembly proclaimed World Press Freedom Day.
